When I'm not busy in the kitchen, my wife Becky, dog Teddy, and I live an active lifestyle; hiking, biking, running, and more. I take Teddy everywhere with me so you might see him from time to time.
Andrew (on the left) is preparing food with his sister Heidi (on the right) who has built a career as a head chef in several West Michigan kitchens.
Andrew, originally from Pennsylvania, has spent most of his life in the Grand Rapids area. Baked goods have always held a meaningful place in his life, especially as he navigated obesity and gastrointestinal challenges from a young age. In 2021, he began a transformative journey to better understand food and its impact on overall well‑being. Through significant lifestyle changes, he proudly lost 80 pounds and developed a deep passion for healthy living. Today, he coaches individuals who are seeking to build healthier habits and improve their quality of life.
During his own health journey, Andrew spent several years on a gluten‑free diet, only to discover that his challenges weren’t caused by gluten itself, but by the quality of many commercial ingredients. This realization shaped his philosophy in the kitchen. In alignment with his mission, Andrew is dedicated to using high‑quality, thoughtfully sourced ingredients in everything he creates.
In 2025, he made the decision to leave his day job and pursue his passion for baking — bringing together his family legacy, personal transformation, and commitment to nourishing others through food.
Food preparation runs deep in Andrew’s family history. His grandfather served as the head baker at Mrs. Miller’s Pies near Hershey, Pennsylvania in the mid 1900's.

Our little side yard farm stand is open on weekends all season long, stocked with fresh‑baked sourdough, cookies, cinnamon rolls, gluten‑free options, and rotating small‑batch specials. Everything is made in our home kitchen under the Michigan Cottage Food Law using simple, honest ingredients.
New items are added throughout the day as they come out of the oven, and we post updates on our www.facebook.com/sideyardbakery page, so you always know what’s fresh. Whether you’re stopping by for your weekly bread or treating yourself to something sweet, we’re grateful to bake for this community.
